Wallace, NC - On July 18-21, 2012, the eGolf Professional Tour will make it's first visit to heralded River Landing Country Club in Wallace, NC for the inaugural River Landing Open. The event, which is expected to attract a field of professionals from over 15 countries, is sure to become an instant hit on the country's No. 3 tour. The primary reason for that instant credibility will be the stunning River Course at River Landing, which will serve as host to the first-year event.
The dramatic property at River Landing, located just 40 minutes northwest of historic Wilmington, NC, has quickly become known as one of the state's premier communities, featuring two of the state's more premier courses - both the River and Landing Courses. The River Course, sole host of the River Landing Open, is a 1996 Clyde Johnston design that has quickly become known for some of the state's top conditioning, with greens to rival that of the best Bermuda-grass surfaces in the Southeast.
Proof of River Landing's status, however, resides in the number of accolades the club - and more specifically, the River Course - has received in it's 16-year existence. Notable awards include:
• Three-time winner of the No. 1 Coastal Golf Course in North Carolina Award (North Carolina Magazine)
• Three-time honoree of Top-20 Golf Course in North Carolina Award (North Carolina Magazine)
• Ranked No. 17 Best Golf Course in North Carolina (Golf Digest)
• 13-time host of U.S. Open local qualifying
In addition to the above, the course has hosted numerous Carolinas Golf Association and Carolinas PGA events through the years, including a vast number of majors for The Old North State.
"We are excited for our first venture to River Landing in a few weeks. As a tour, we have heard for years about the immaculate conditioning and championship-caliber layout, so to be able to present that to our players is quite exciting," said eGolf Tour president David Siegel. "We have had a lot of success roughly an hour from there at our annual Championship at St. James Plantation. In turn, we feel as though the coastal North Carolina region is an untapped golf resource that can only yield a positive experience for our players."
The 72-hole event will begin on Wednesday, July 18th with an estimated field of 156 players. Following Thursday's second round, the field will be cut to the low 33 percent and ties for the final 36 holes of play, to be contested on both Friday, July 20th and Saturday, July 21st.
The event will be the 16th of 24 total events contested on the 2012 eGolf Tour. Now in it's 11th year, the eGolf Tour is having one of it's best yet, with 13 different winners in the first 14 events of the year. Among those winners is Wilmington, NC native and former UNC Wilmington star Josh Brock, who broke through for his first professional title at the aforementioned Championship at St. James Plantation this past April. Brock, along with a host of 2012 tour winners, is expected to be in the River Landing field.
