Savannah, GA August 28, 2009Second round play in the inaugural Championship at Savannah Harbor was completed at 11:30 AM on Friday morning. It was at that point that additional storms entered the greater Savannah area and forced officials to delay the start of the third round until 2:00 PM, with players teeing off of Nos. 1 and 10 in threesomes. A heavy rain shower at approximately 1:15 PM forced officials to postpone third round play until 4:00 PM. Amazingly, the third round began on time and players played until 7:45 PM, when play was called due to darkness. Third round play will resume tomorrow morning at 7:30 AM, and players will keep their same pairings for the final round. Players will be given a short period between rounds.

At the end of 36 holes, first-round co-leaders Roberto Castro of Alpharetta, GA and Chris McCartin of Arlington, VA sat tied atop the leaderboard at 13-under 131. Both players were in the half of the field that had to return to the course early Friday morning to complete second-round play.

Castro, a former Georgia Tech "All American," has only one blemish on his card through 36 holes – a bogey at the par-3 third in the second round. Just three weeks removed from capturing the Georgia State Open, Castro is eyeing his second win of the 2009 season after capturing the Spring Creek Championship in June.

Roberto CastroRoberto CastroFor McCartin, The Club at Savannah Harbor is suiting his eye just fine through two rounds. A bogey-free 65 on Wednesday was backed up by a bogey-free 66 in the second round, and all of a sudden, the former Wake Forest Demon Deacon is in position to capture his first tour title. Although McCartin has only two top-25 finishes this year, in both instances, he was in contention entering the final round. Rounds of 69-67-65-68—269 netted him a T4 finish at the Walnut Creek Championship, while three straight 68s delivered a solo seventh-place finish at the Forest Oaks Classic.

One shot behind Castro and McCartin is two-time tour winner Kyle Dobbs of Tequesta, FL. Dobbs, who claimed his second 2009 title two weeks ago at the River Run Championship, is currently No. 3 on the money list with just over $77,000 in earnings. Dobbs is most comfortable when playing from behind, as evidenced by the five- and one-shot deficits he turned into five- and four-shot victories, respectively, in each of his wins.

Alone in fourth place is former PGA TOUR player Matt Davidson of Chapel Hill, NC. The 2008 Tour Championship winner has been knocking on the door all season with three top-3 finishes in 14 starts. Davidson has rounds of 66-67 under his belt for an 11-under total, trailing the leaders by a mere two shots.

The 36-hole cut fell at 4-under 140, with 71 players making it to the final 36 holes.

Round three play is expected to finish at approximately 11:00 AM. The tournament is open to the public and free of charge.
