Avondale, LA – April 26, 2010 – Former eGolf Tour player Jason Bohn carded rounds of 65-67-71-67—270 at the PGA TOUR's Zurich Classic of New Orleans last week en route to collecting the second win of his TOUR career.
Bohn, who played on the eGolf Tour in the early 2000's before ascending up the ranks to the PGA TOUR, led the Zurich Classic wire-to-wire with rounds of 65-67-71-67—270 and picked up $1,152,000 for the second win of his TOUR career (the first came at the 2005 B.C. Open).
The Pete Dye-designed TPC Louisiana layout was doused with heavy rains earlier in the week, forcing players to keep their same pairings for the final two rounds and keep playing consecutively in order to finish on time. Bohn was forced to play 24 holes on Saturday and 30 on Sunday.
Bohn played alongside Jeff Overton for the final 36 holes, and the two players would trade jabs throughout the weekend before the steady veteran was able to pull away with birdies at 15, 16 and 18 on Sunday – the latter just narrowly missing the hole for what would have been an unbelievable closing eagle.
"This is life changing," said the 37-year-old Bohn, who gave into his emotions shortly after holing the final putt. "I just said I probably wouldn't say much because I'm capturing all of this. I want to take this one to the grave. I want to remember every little detail that I missed on my first one."
Following his breakthrough win in 2005, Bohn suffered numerous injuries and underwent back surgery at one point before finally regaining his health and in turn his game.
With the win, Bohn moved to No. 10 on the PGA TOUR money list and No. 11 on the FedExCup points list.
Former eGolf Tour player Aron Price of Australia recorded the second-best finish of his two-year PGA TOUR career in New Orleans with a T10 effort. Price, who played collegiate golf in the United States at Georgia Southern, put together steady rounds of 69-70-70-70—279 for his first top-10 on TOUR since a T6 at the 2009 Mayakoba Golf Classic – a span of 27 tournaments.
Price, who entered the season with conditional status on the PGA TOUR after finishing No. 144 on the 2009 money list, missed the first three cuts of the 2010 season before finishing T33 at the Puerto Rico Open in March. Price also has a pair of top-40 finishes in two starts on the Nationwide Tour this year.
Former Walker Cup standout and eGolf Tour player Cameron Tringale notched a T28 result at the Zurich Classic with rounds of 69-70-70-73—282. After missing the first four cuts of his rookie season, the former Georgia Tech “All American” has now made back-to-back cuts with T17 and T28 finishes at the Puerto Rico Open and the Zurich Classic, respectively.
Tringale had a chance to move up the final-round leaderboard, but made a crushing triple-bogey six at the par-3 17th to dash any dreams of a top-20 finish.
Other current and former eGolf Tour players to make the cut in New Orleans include Cameron Tringale (T28) and Tom Gillis (T67). For complete results from the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on pgatour.com, please click here.
Jason KokrakAt the Nationwide Tour's South Georgia Classic presented by First State Bank and Trust, longtime eGolf Tour player William McGirt of Boiling Springs, SC continued his stellar 2010 play with a seventh-place finish in Valdosta, GA. McGirt entered the season with conditional Nationwide Tour status and has notched two top-10 finishes in just three starts. Currently No. 20 on the tour's money list, McGirt will likely gain entry into every event he chooses following the Nationwide Tour's player eligibility re-shuffle, which happened after the conclusion of the South Georgia Classic. Finishing in solo eighth was 2009 eGolf Tour leading money winner Scott Brown of North Augusta, SC. Brown carded a final-round 68 (one of only six players to shoot in the 60s on Sunday) to move up 10 spots on the leaderboard and collect the first top-10 of his Nationwide Tour career. Former eGolf Tour champion Gary Christian of England rounded out the tour's representation inside the top 10 with a T9 effort over the weekend. After missing the cut in his first two events of the year, Christian has now made five consecutive cuts. Other eGolf Tour players to make the cut in Valdosta include Trevor Murphy (T13), David Mathis (T13), Rob Oppenheim (T13), Jason Kokrak (T13), Chris Kirk (T18), Nick Flanagan (T20), Bobby MacWhinnie (T31), Kyle Reifers (T31), Justin Peters (T31), Casey Wittenberg (T41), Matt Hendrix (T41), Ted Brown (T49), Keegan Bradley (T51), Darron Stiles (T51), Luke List (T51), Scott Stallings (T61) and Kevin Kisner (T69). - Jason Kokrak, who earned a spot in the South Georgia Classic via his win at the eGolf Tour's Cabarrus Classic in March, made the most of his opportunity with rounds of 68-67-75-75—285 and a T13 finish. The long-hitting former Xavier University standout played his way into a solo second standing and Saturday's final pairing following a stellar opening 36 holes. Struggles on the weekend dropped Kokrak back out of contention, but still allowed him to finish inside the top 25 and earn a spot in this week's Stadion Athens Classic at UGA. Kokrak's Nationwide Tour exemption was the first of four that the eGolf Tour will award this year, with the next being a spot in the prestigious BMW Charity Pro-Am on May 13-16. That exemption will go to the low participating player at the eGolf Tour's Cowans Ford Open on May 5-8.
