Leon, MexicoJune 28, 2010 – Former eGolf Tour player Jamie Lovemark of Rancho Santa Fe, CA eagled the first playoff hole on Sunday to capture his first career Nationwide Tour title at the Mexico Open Bicentenary. The win moved Lovemark up to No. 2 on the 2010 money list, virtually assuring the former University of Southern California star of his 2011 PGA TOUR card.

At the end of 72 holes, Lovemark found himself in a tie with B.J. Staten at 12-under 276, and the two players would go back to the 18th hole to determine the event’s champion.

After both players found the fairway of the par-5 18th, Lovemark put his early signature on victory with a 6-iron from 235 yards that wound up a mere 3 feet from the hole.

"It was definitely the best shot I've hot in a really long time," said Lovemark after the round. "My caddy and I figured the ball would go 12 percent farther due to elevation and another eight percent because of adrenaline. I think it was half luck, half skill."

The inevitable kick-in eagle put added pressure on Staten, whose approach shot came up short and in a hazard fronting the green. After taking a drop, Staten would make a par and allow Lovemark two putts for the win. In true champion’s fashion, Lovemark poured in the winning putt. The win was worth $108,000 to Lovemark, but more importantly, it moved his 2010 earnings to $246,351 and pushed him from No. 10 to No. 2 on the tour’s money list. At season’s end, the top 25 players on the Nationwide Tour money list will earn their 2011 PGA TOUR cards.

"I haven't won since 2007 so I can't tell you how special it is for me to win out here," said the 22-year-old. "I've knocked on the door a few times this year and to seal the deal feels so good."

Former eGolf Tour players Fabian Gomez and Kevin Chappell rounded out the tour’s representation inside the top 10. Both players posted 72-hole totals of 7-under 281 to finish in a tie for ninth.

Chappell, currently No. 3 on the Nationwide Tour money list, carded Sunday’s low round with a 7-under 65 that allowed the former UCLA Bruin to move from T40 to T9.

Other eGolf Tour players to make the cut in Mexico include Kevin Kisner (T19), Emmett Turner (T19), Kyle Thompson (T24), David Robinson (T30), Daniel Summerhays (T30), Keegan Bradley (T30), Hugo Leon (T30), Sal Spallone (T44), Justin Hicks (T44), Bobby MacWhinnie (T61), Bryan DeCorso (T65), Keven Fortin-Simard (T68) and David Morland IV (T71).

  • At the PGA TOUR’s Travelers Championship, Kris Blanks and Brendon de Jonge were the low eGolf Tour players, with each posting totals of 11-under 269 to finish T9 on the week. For Blanks, the finish was his third top-10 of the 2010 season and his first since a T5 effort at the Verizon Heritage in April. In the midst of his best season ever on TOUR, Blanks is currently 55th on the money list and 57th on the FedExCup points list. One week after sharing the 18-hole lead at the U.S. Open, de Jonge continued his solid play with his fourth top-10 of the year in Hartford. That total equals the number of top-10s he had in his entire TOUR career coming into the 2010 season. He is currently 46th on the money list and 41st in FedExCup points. Other eGolf Tour players to make the cut at the Travelers Championship include Jason Bohn (T21), Matt Every (T34), Will MacKenzie (T51), James Nitties (T57) and Aron Price (T57).
