Greensboro, NCAugust 24, 2009 – The PGA TOUR ventured just north of Charlotte last week for the annual Wyndham Championship, contested at past eGolf Tour host site Sedgefield Country Club. The restored Donald Ross-designed gem endured countless storms and weather delays throughout the week to produce one of the more exciting finishes in tournament history. Past eGolf Tour player Jason Bohn, fresh off a final-round 62, was forced to sit and watch for over an hour as the final groups finished, with each player trying to match or better his 16-under 264 total. First to come through was Ryan Moore, who created a back-nine tear with birdies on Nos. 12-16 to get to 17-under before an untimely bogey at the last left him tied with Bohn. Next up was Kevin Stadler, who had a 10-foot par putt at the 72nd hole to post 17-under, but watched in shock as his putt lost speed at the hole and left him tied with Bohn and Moore, ready for sudden death. All three players headed back to the 18th, where Moore and Stadler were able to make pars, while Bohn bowed out early with a bogey after failing to get up-and-down from a greenside bunker.

"(I) Wasn't really committed with it. I just needed to be a little more aggressive and give myself a putt for par anyway, said Bohn, speaking with local press afterwards. "Little disappointed in the way it ended.

With Bohn out of the mix, Moore and Stadler halved the next hole with matching pars before returning to the 18th, where Moore sealed his first TOUR title with an emphatic birdie.

The Wyndham Championship was well represented with current eGolf Professional Tour members. In the event's Monday qualifier, three of the four spots were claimed by 2009 members Fernando Mechereffe, Ryan Blaum and David Robinson, while the fourth spot was claimed via a playoff by former tour member Simon McGreal. Of the four players, Mechereffe clearly made the most of his opportunity. With opening rounds of 69-65, the Brazil native and former N.C. State standout positioned himself nicely for a weekend run while inside the top 30 with 36 holes left to play. Paired with current U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover on Saturday, Mechereffe struggled out of the gates with a 2-over 37 on his outward nine, but managed to birdie Nos. 15 and 17 to post a respectable even-par round of 70 on Saturday. On Sunday, he again found himself alongside one of the game's best players in David Toms. While birdies were flying in the final round, Mechereffe managed only one in a one birdie, two bogey round of 1-over 71. The resulting T57 finish was the best of his career in a PGA or Nationwide Tour event. Entering this week's Championship at Savannah Harbor, Mechereffe sits 46th on the eGolf Tour money list with $22,473 in earnings.

Matt HendrixMatt HendrixOther former players, outside of Bohn and Mechereffe, who played well in Greensboro include Steve Marino (T10), David Mathis (T17), Matt Bettencourt (T44), Tommy Gainey (T71) and Kris Blanks (T71).

Mathis, a native of nearby Lexington, NC and a past eGolf Tour champion, used rounds of 70-68-65-67 to record the best finish of his rookie season. The T17 effort also allowed the former Campbell University golfer to earn a spot in the FedExCup Playoffs, which begin this week. Mathis moved from No. 126 to No. 118 to earn one of the final valuable spots in The Barclays, a 120-player field event beginning Thursday at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, NJ.

  • The Nationwide Tour was in Overland Park, KS for the Christmas in October Classic. Tell me if you've heard this one before: Entering the final round, 2009 eGolf Tour members Tom Gillis and Blake Adams were both in the top six and eyeing to move up yet another notch on the money list after already securing their 2010 PGA TOUR cards. While it became apparent early on that no one was going to catch Michael Sim in his attempt to collect a third win and a promotion to the 2009 PGA TOUR, Adams nevertheless made a move with a final-round 66 that netted the Eatonton, GA native a fourth-place finish. After turning at 1-under 35, Adams played Nos. 10-14 in 5-under par, but a bogey at the par-4 16th dropped him out of the chase as Sim proved too solid to catch on Sunday. It was the seventh top-10 finish in 14 starts for Adams this year, as well as his fourth top-5 finish. He is roughly $20,000 away from earning the distinction of most money earned in a single Nationwide Tour season without a victory. Gillis, on the other hand, struggled to a 1-over 72 on Sunday, thanks in part to a triple-bogey on the par-4 13th. Regardless, he still finished T9, a finish that marked his third consecutive top-10 effort on tour. 2009 eGolf Tour member Matt Hendrix successfully Monday qualified for the Christmas in October Classic and carded rounds of 67-70-68-70 to finish T23 and earn an automatic spot in this week's Northeast Pennsylvania Classic. Other past and present eGolf Tour players who played well in Kansas include Michael Clark II (3), Sal Spallone (T6), Brad Fritsch (T9), Gary Christian (T23), Kyle Thompson (T23), Derek Lamely (T32), Chris Kirk (T34), Michael Sims (T39), Scott Parel (T47), Scott Harrington (T47), Jin Park (T47), Major Manning (T60) and Brent Delahoussaye (T66).
