Omaha, Nebraska – August 2, 2010 – Scott Stallings, a member of the eGolf Tour in 2009, posted rounds of 68-64-67-67—266 at the Nationwide Tour's Cox Classic Presented by Lexus of Omaha over the weekend to collect his third top-10 of the 2010 season and move from No. 52 to No. 35 on the tour's money list. At the conclusion of the 2010 season, the top 25 players on the Nationwide Tour money list will earn their PGA TOUR cards for the 2011 season.
Stallings opened the week in low-scoring Omaha with rounds of 68-64 to put himself into contention heading into the weekend rounds at Champions Run Golf Club. In Saturday's third round, the former Tennessee Tech standout struggled with an outward nine of 3-over 38, but managed to right the ship on his inward nine with a stout 7-under 29 for a third-round 67.
Entering the final round in a tie for 12th, Stallings immediately vaulted himself into contention with six birdies in his first 10 holes to get to 20-under on the week. A poorly-timed double bogey at the par-4 13th would be his un-doing, as he fell out of contention and back down the leaderboard. An eagle at the short par-5 17th would be offset by bogeys at 15 and 18, and Stallings' back-nine 37 would leave him with a final round 67 and a T7 finish on the week.
The finish marked his third top-7 effort on the season and his fifth top-25. More importantly, his earnings of $89,294 have him at No. 35 on the money list, and trailing the ever-coveted No. 25 spot by only $24,204.
First-round leader Kyle Thompson posted rounds of 63-65-69-71—268 to finish T15 on the week. A former eGolf Tour player and University of South Carolina star, Thompson had a legitimate shot at winning the event heading into Sunday in a tie for third, but stumbled to a round of 71 and fell 12 spots back.
Five-time eGolf Tour winner Roberto Castro and Jamie Lovemark each finished T19 on the week with 72-hole totals of 15-under 269. For Castro, the top-25 finish solidified his spot in the Nationwide Tour's Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open this week in Wichita, KS. A two-time winner at eGolf Tour Championship host Spring Creek Golf Club, Castro will be absent from this week's field in order to compete on the Nationwide Tour.
Other eGolf Tour players to make it to the weekend in Omaha include Kevin Chappell (5), A.J. Elgert (T27), David Mathis (T27), William McGirt (T34), Scott Brown (T34), Tommy Gainey (T34), Jin Park (T41), Matt Davidson (T46), Berry Henson (T50), Fabian Gomez (T54), Luke List (T54) and Stephen Poole (63). For de Jonge, the T3 tied his career best finish on TOUR and also marked his third top-5 finish this season. Now a resident of Charlotte, NC, de Jonge is in the midst of a career year at No. 20 on the FedExCup points list and earnings of $1,768,173. Former tour player Aron Price of Australia picked up his second top-10 of the year in West Virginia with rounds of 65-71-65-65—266 and a T9 finish. The former Georgia Southern “All America” selection posted bogey-free rounds on Saturday and Sunday en route to the lowest 72-hole total (to par) of his TOUR career.
