Greer, SCMay 17, 2010 Two-time eGolf Tour winner Justin Hicks led an onslaught of eGolf Tour players at the Nationwide Tour's prestigious BMW Charity Pro-Am over the weekend, in turn collecting the second Nationwide Tour title of his career. The top six players on Sunday's final leaderboard were all former eGolf Tour players.

Hicks, who claimed his maiden Nationwide Tour title at the 2008 Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic, was forced to sit through a one-hour weather delay after hitting his tee shot on the 72nd hole. After a day of trading shots with a field literally recording birdies on every hole, the former University of Michigan star was left to find a quiet place at the Thornblade Club to ponder what lay before him.

"The break was great," said Hicks. "We just went to a place nearby where it was quiet. We listened to music and relaxed. I know how to play this game and I didn't want to be around a bunch of people telling me what I needed to do."

When they returned to the par-4 18th, Hicks was at 19-under and held a one-shot advantage over playing partner Fabian Gomez. Jamie Lovemark, Tommy Gainey, Chris Kirk and Kevin Chappell were all in the clubhouse at 18-under, awaiting a possible playoff.

When Gomez, a former eGolf Tour player, found the greenside bunker at 18, the door was left wide open for Hicks to put an end to the tournament and his near-two-year winless drought on the Nationwide Tour. A stout 7-iron uphill from 173 yards to 3 feet put Hicks in control, only needing a two-putt par for the win. Pouring the birdie putt in the center of the cup was the icing on the cake for Hicks, who was starting to wonder if his first win was a fluke.

"The first puts you on the map," said Hicks. "The second one says that you're not a one-hit wonder. I'd like to think I can make a career out of this game. It will probably take a day or two before this sinks in. Right now it just feels like I won the race for the day, not the whole tournament."

With the win, Hicks collected $108,000 and moved up 40 spots to No. 7 on the 2010 Nationwide Tour money list.

Lovemark, Gainey, Kirk and Chappell – all former eGolf Tour players – finished in a four-way tie for second place and earned $39,600 for their efforts. All four players are now inside the top 17 on the money list, with Gainey making the biggest move, up 20 spots from No. 37 the week prior.

The top honor likely goes to Chappell, who moved from No. 3 to No. 1 on the money list following his T2 finish. Chappell has $190,621 in earnings this season following a win at the Fresh Express Classic in April and four top-10 finishes total.

Gomez, who failed to apply added pressure to Hicks with an approach into the greenside bunker at the 72nd hole, went on to record bogey and fall out of a tie for second and into solo sixth at 17-under for the event. The native of Argentina had a legitimate chance to pick up his second win of the year, but could not overcome four bogeys and a double-bogey on his way to a closing round of 72. Regardless, Gomez remains inside the top five on the 2010 money list with earnings of $151,941.

Scott Stallings, a 2009 member of the eGolf Tour, recorded his best finish of the season with a T7 at the BMW Charity Pro-Am. Stallings posted Sunday's second-lowest round with a staggering 8-under 63 at Thornblade, which was unfortunately punctuated with a closing bogey at the par-3 ninth (his 18th).

Other eGolf Tour players to make the cut at the BMW Charity Pro-Am include Clint Jensen (T11), Ted Potter (T20), Daniel Summerhays (T20), Nick Flanagan (T25), Gary Christian (T25), Adam Meyer (T32), William McGirt (T32), Tommy Bierhshenk (T32), Bryan DeCorso (T32), David Mathis (T32), Kyle Thompson (T43), Darron Stiles (T49), Phillip Mollica (T49), Justin Peters (T56) and Jin Park (T63). • Clint JensenClint JensenClint Jensen, winner of the eGolf Tour's BMW Charity Pro-Am exemption after collecting his second eGolf Tour title at the Cowans Ford Open, made the most of his opportunity with rounds of 66-71-64-70—271 and a T11 finish. The former University of Tulsa star was in contention for much of the day on Sunday before recording bogeys at 17 and 18 to fall to 15-under for the event, five shots shy of Hicks. For Jensen, the finish was the best of his Nationwide Tour career, dating back to 1998. It marked the second time in the last year that Jensen had earned a Nationwide Tour start via a win on the eGolf Tour. In July of 2009, Jensen won the tour's Southern Open and in turn a spot in the Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper that August. With his T11 finish, Jensen solidified a spot in this week's Rex Hospital Open on the Nationwide Tour (any player finishing in the top 25 in a Nationwide Tour event is automatically eligible for the following week's event). Jensen collected $12,720 with his finish, and is already inside the top 100 on the Nationwide Tour money list at T95. Another good finish this week in Raleigh will give the Jupiter, FL native a legitimate shot at earning status following the tour's next re-shuffle of the eligibility list. The exemption into the BMW Charity Pro-Am was the second of four Nationwide Tour exemptions granted to the eGolf Tour this year. The first was for the South Georgia Classic in April, with two still to come for the Price Cutter Charity Championship in August. The exemptions into the Price Cutter Charity Championship will be awarded to the low participating players at both the Bolle Classic and the Forest Oaks Classic.
  • At the PGA TOUR's Valero Texas Open, longtime eGolf Tour member Garth Mulroy led all former players with a T6 finish, in turn marking the best finish of his TOUR career. Mulroy, who earned his TOUR card via a top-25 finish on the 2009 Nationwide Tour money list, posted rounds of 71-67-67-72—277 one week after making his first cut of the season at the Quail Hollow Championship (T69). Mulroy, a former N.C. State product, briefly flirted with the lead in Charlotte before posting weekend rounds of 74-80 to drop down the leaderboard. A third-round 67 in San Antonio on Sunday morning put the South African in position to make a final-round move, but a closing 72 in the afternoon dropped him from a tie for second into a tie for sixth. Two-time eGolf Tour winner Tom Gillis of Oxford, MI continued his stellar 2010 play with a T9 effort at the Texas Open. Gillis has now made 10 of 12 cuts on the year and has accumulated earnings of $639,320 while moving up to No. 57 on the FedExCup points list. Other former eGolf Tour players to make the cut in Texas include Aron Price (T17), James Nitties (T17), Cameron Tringale (T28), Kris Blanks (T30), Martin Flores (T51) and Jeff Burns (T61).
