Charlotte, N.C. – December 13, 2010 – The eGolf Professional Tour announced today that they have been granted an unrestricted exemption into the Nationwide Tour’s South Georgia Classic presented by First State Bank and Trust Company, to be contested at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, GA on April 28-May 1, 2011.

The South Georgia Classic exemption will be the ninth exemption granted to the eGolf Professional Tour in the last two years. In 2010 alone, the tour was awarded an exemption into the South Georgia Classic, an exemption into the BMW Charity Pro-Am, and two exemptions into the Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper. The nine exemptions are the most ever awarded to a developmental tour.

The winners of the past two South Georgia Classics are both former eGolf Professional Tour players, with South African Garth Mulroy claiming the 2009 title, and Australian Ewan Porter winning the 2010 title. The Mulroy victory spawned an incredible season for the former N.C. State golfer, as he would go on to record $263,126 in earnings and finish No. 14 on the season-ending money list.

With his win at the Cabarrus Classic this past March, 2010 eGolf Tour leading money winner Jason Kokrak won the tour’s exemption into the 2010 South Georgia Classic, and made the most of his opportunity. Opening rounds of 67-68 put Kokrak in solo second at the tournament’s halfway point, before closing rounds of 75-75 would leave him T13 on the week at 3-under 285. Kokrak’s top-25 finish in Valdosta would net the former Xavier University star a spot in the following week’s Stadion Classic at UGA, where he would eventually finish T34.

“We are excited about continuing our relationship with the eGolf Professional Tour. Jason Kokrak proved to be an excellent addition to the field this year after playing his way into Saturday’s final pairing,” said South Georgia Classic tournament director David Fox. “Like Jason, there are many deserving players on the eGolf Tour and we are looking forward to providing the opportunity to play in our Nationwide Tour event.”

The exemption will be set up in the form of a tournament-within-a-tournament qualifier at the tour’s Irish Creek Classic on March 30-April 2, 2011. The participating player who finishes the highest in the tournament will be granted the exemption. Proceeds generated from the exemption will go to the tournament’s official charity, the Hospital Authority of Valdosta and Lowndes County, GA, dba South Georgia Medical Center.

The 2011 Irish Creek Classic will be contested at both The Club at Irish Creek and Cabarrus Country Club in Kannapolis, NC. The 72-hole event is expected to include a field of 216 players from multiple countries and over 40 states, with an estimated purse of $250,000.

This is the third major tour exemption announced by the eGolf Professional Tour for next season. In addition to the South Georgia Classic exemption, the tour also secured two exemptions to the European Tour’s King Hassan II Trophy in 2011. Announcements regarding future exemptions will be released in the coming weeks.
