By Stewart Moore
Charlotte, N.C. – The eGolf Gateway Tour announced today that it has been awarded one unrestricted exemption into the Web.com Tour’s $600,000 United Leasing Championship Presented by PTI, set to be contested at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Ind. on April 30 – May 3, 2015.
The exemption marks the 27th Web.com Tour exemption awarded to the eGolf Gateway Tour in tour history, and the fourth of the 2015 season following three spots granted into the Rex Hospital Open. In addition, the tour has been granted a total of three PGA TOUR exemptions and four European Tour exemptions.
The exemption will be awarded to the medalist in a one-day, 18-hole qualifier at famed Moon Valley Country Club in Phoenix, Ariz. on April 13, 2015.
Entry fees for the qualifier will be $300 for eGolf Gateway Tour members and $500 for non-members. The top 30 percent of the field on the day’s final leaderboard will receive $300 each.
“We are excited to offer this exemption to our players,” said eGolf Gateway Tour west coast director Ryan Pray. “The United Leasing Championship is one of the premier events on the Web.com Tour schedule, and its early-season date makes it an attractive spot for our medalist to possibly play his way up for the remainder of the season.”
After three years of existence, the United Leasing Championship has become one of the Web.com Tour’s most popular stops, thanks in part to host Victoria National Golf Club.
The 1998 Tom Fazio design was named “Best New Private Course” by Golf Digest in 1999, No. 11 on Golf Digest’s “Best New Modern Courses” list in 2007, “Best in State” for Indiana by Golf Digest in 2013, and No. 47 on Golf Digest’s “America’s Greatest 100 Courses” in 2013.
Current PGA TOUR star Ben Martin, who notched his first professional win at the eGolf Gateway Tour’s Forest Oaks Classic in 2010, won the 2013 United Leasing Championship in a four-man playoff, beating out Joe Affrunti, Ashley Hall and 2006 eGolf Gateway Tour winner Billy Hurley III for the first of two Web.com Tour titles on the year.
