eGolf Tour Releases 14-Tournament Schedule for Inaugural eGolf Pro Tour Florida Season
Charlotte, NC – The eGolf Tour announced today the dates and locations for the upcoming eGolf Pro Tour Florida season, set to kick off on October 28-31, 2013 with the inaugural Lee Westwood Golf School Open at Errol Estate Golf & Country Club. The first-year event will set the tone for the tour’s 14-tournament schedule, featuring some of the top venues in all of central Florida.
Marriott's Grande Pines G.C.
Errol Estate, located in Apopka, FL, is a 1971 Joe Lee design, and home of the prestigious Lee Westwood Golf School, owned and operated by the 22-time European Tour winner.
The second stop on the 2013-2014 season will be at MetroWest Golf Club on November 6-8. The classic Robert Trent Jones Jr. layout is in the midst of a stunning $1.5 million dollar renovation, set to re-open the week prior to the event, with restored greens and bunkering bringing back the penal nature the course earned a reputation for upon its opening in 1987.
Marriott’s Grande Pines Golf Club, which recently earned accolades as one of Golfweek’s “Top 100 Best Resort Courses,” dots the schedule on November 15-17. The Steve Smyers and Sir Nick Faldo design meshes peacefully with the surrounding landscape, and is a member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses.
The Deltona Club
eGolf Pro Tour Florida will play three tournaments at Walt Disney World on the Magnolia, Palm and Lake Buena Vista courses – all former hosts of the PGA TOUR’s Children’s Miracle Network Classic, contested from 1971 through 2012. The Magnolia Course, which served as primary host during the tournament’s 42-year run, will open the tour’s 2014 run on January 8-10.
The rugged flash bunkering and surprisingly undulating terrain of Bobby Weed’s Deltona Club will serve as host venue to the tour on February 5-7. The 2008 design was awarded by Golfweek Magazine as the 20th Best Public Course in Florida for 2013 and rated by Golf Inc. Magazine as the #1 Golf Course Renovation in Florida.
The signature events of the tour’s 2014 campaign will be the Citrus Open and the Orlando Open, contested at Rio Pinar Country Club and Dubsdread Golf Club, respectively.
The Citrus Open, which was officially supplanted by Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Classic in 1979, was long one of the more popular stops on the PGA TOUR, producing champions such as Palmer, Lee Trevino, Hale Irwin, Julius Boros, Gary Koch and Tom Kite.
Originally designed in 1923 and renovated in 2008, Dubsdread Golf Club features the oldest public layout in the central Florida area. The throwback venue has plenty of history attached to it as the former site of the Orlando Golf Open, when it hosted such golf legends as Sam Snead, Ben Hogan and Claude Harmon.
