Chandler, Ariz. – Dino Giacomazzi of Scottsdale, Ariz. opened his week at Lone Tree Golf Club with a 10-under 61, and closed it with a 7-under 64 en route to posting a dominant 20-under 193 total in the eGolf Gateway Tour’s penultimate spring series event on Thursday, good for a three-shot win and the event’s $14,200 first-place prize.

Giacomazzi entered Thursday’s final round at Lone Tree trailing overnight leader John Ellis of San Jose, Calif. by one shot after posting rounds of 61-68—129 to sit at 13-under par.

Ellis, a former Web.com Tour member, began day three in solid fashion with birdies on Nos. 3 and 4 to move to 16-under on the week.

On the par-5 seventh, the former Oregon Duck struggled mightily, posting a double-bogey seven to fall back to even par on the day. From there on out, Ellis failed to record another birdie, in turn opening the door for Giacomazzi.

Birdies on Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 9 gave Giacomazzi a 4-under 32 on his outward nine, pushing him to 17-under par for the week – one shot clear of Scotland’s Jimmie Gunn, who went out in 32 as well to sit at 16-under par.

On the back nine, Giacomazzi maintained his lead by birdieing 12 and 16 to jump to 19-under par, still one clear of Gunn, who birdied 15 and 16 to keep pace.

Gunn, who entered the week with four straight top-10s, including a win last month at La Purisima, bogeyed the par-4 17th to drop two shots back of Giacomazzi heading to the par-5 finishing hole.

The 23-year-old Giacomazzi, looking for career win No. 1 on tour in his first start of the year, seized the opportunity with one final birdie to reach 20-under par via a 7-under 64, good for a three-shot win and the tournament’s $14,200 winner’s check.

Gunn, Riley Arp of Fort Collins, Colo. and Michael Letzig of Kansas City, Mo. shared runner-up honors at 17-under 196, three shots back of Giacomazzi. They each earned $6,025 on the week.

eGolf Gateway Tour’s west coast spring series will conclude next week at Wigwam Resort (Red) on April 6-8, 2015. Registration for this event is still open.
