Renfrew Nabs Sundance Title With Late Final-Round Birdie
By Stewart Moore
Buckeye, Ariz. - Canadian Cory Renfrew posted rounds of 63-69-71--203 (13-under) to win the eGolf Gateway Tour's spring series event at Sundance Golf Club on Friday.
The talented Victoria, British Columbia native was tied with Scotland's Jimmy Gunn with two hole to play before a birdie on the par-4 17th moved him one shot in the clear at 13-under par.
When Renfrew pared the last and Gunn failed to birdie, the 28-year-old was left with his first win of the season and the event's $12,000 first-place prize.
After missing two of his first four cuts of the season, Renfrew now has back-to-back top-5s in his last two starts, dating back to a T5 at Rustic Canyon Golf Club last month.
Gunn wound up in solo-second place, one shot back of Renfrew at 12-under 204. The 34-year-old earned $6,700 on the week.
Canada's Darren Wallace finished in solo-third place at 11-under 205.
