As always, the eGolf Professional Tour will provide daily updates on the successes of past and present Tour players as they navigate each first stage site. We will be posting daily results and summaries from each site throughout the entire process as dreams are achieved on one of golf’s cruelest stages. KANNAPOLIS, NC
To say the eGolf Tour dominated day one at Tour host The Club at Irish Creek would be an understatement. In total, 28 of the top 33 players at the Kannapolis, NC site are past or present eGolf Tour players. Leading the way is two-time eGolf Tour winner Clint Jensen of Jupiter, FL, who pasted the Davis Love III-designed course with nine birdies in his first 13 holes to open with a 9-under 62 to grab a two-shot lead over playing partner Patrick Reed. Jensen earned the first of his two eGolf Tour wins at the 2009 Southern Open, which was contested at The Club at Irish Creek. Former Georgia Tech star and 2010-2011 eGolf Tour member Taylor Hall of LaGrange, GA is alone in third place after a 6-under 65 on day one. Four eGolf Tour players are tied for third with opening rounds of 4-under 67. Among the four players is six-time eGolf Tour winner Frank Adams III, who resides in nearby Salisbury, NC. Adams is fresh off a season-ending streak of three consecutive top-10 finishes, which earned the former East Carolina standout an exemption into the European Tour’s 2012 King Hassan II Trophy via the eGolf Tour’s “Road to Morocco” points race this fall. Nine eGolf Tour players opened with rounds of 1-under 70 to put themselves in a tie for 23rd through 18 holes. In that grouping was 2005 eGolf Tour leading money winner David Sanchez, as well as 2011 eGolf Tour leading money winner Corey Nagy. Nagy, a four-time “All American” at UNC Charlotte, won three times on the eGolf Tour this year, including last week at the season-ending Salisbury Classic. That third win pushed Nagy ahead of year-long leading money winner Jason Kokrak, who has played the Nationwide Tour full-time since May, picking up two wins in the last five weeks to secure his 2012 PGA TOUR card.
