eGolf Tour Member Adam Webb Shines at South Georgia Classic in Web.com Tour Debut
By Stewart Moore
Valdosta, GA – When Adam Webb of Ridgeway, VA overcame a rough start to his 2014 season to win the eGolf Tour’s NorthStone Open in March, he earned an exemption into the Web.com Tour’s South Georgia Classic, contested this past weekend at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, GA. Making his debut on the PGA TOUR’s developmental circuit, Webb shined over the final two days, playing his way into Sunday’s final twosome and a share of the final-round lead before finishing T8 on the week.
Webb’s 2014 season on the eGolf Tour reads like some form of an anomaly, with four missed cuts surrounding the breakthrough win at NorthStone, where a final-round 71 left him at 5-under par for the week, good for a two-shot win over Derek Rende. Webb’s victory punched his ticket to Valdosta, where the former Longwood University standout nearly punched his ticket to full-time status going forward.
After opening his week at Kinderlou Forest with solid rounds of 70-70—140, Webb exploded onto the leaderboard with a 7-under 65 on Saturday that pushed him up into a tie for second at 11-under 205 – one shot back of two-time winner and Web.com Tour leading money winner Carlos Ortiz. With Webb being the first of three players to post 11-under par, he was set for Sunday’s final pairing at 1:10 PM alongside Ortiz, without doubt the tour’s hottest player.
Webb’s role as the hunter quickly turned to the hunted when Ortiz bogeyed his first two holes of the day, leaving the three-year eGolf Tour member tied for the lead alongside a surging Blayne Barber – a former eGolf Tour player himself.
Webb produced a birdie-bogey-birdie scorecard on Nos. 2 through 4, then jumped to 13-under par with a birdie at the par-3 sixth. Through nine holes, the two remained tied atop the leaderboard at 13-under par, but the back nine would prove to be a cruel mistress to Webb, who was looking to shock the world in his rookie event.
Out of the gate, Barber birdied 10 and 11 to move to 15-under, suddenly three shots clear of Webb, who bogeyed the par-5 11th to fall back to minus-12 for the week.
Webb added a follow-up bogey at the par-4 12th, but gained a shot when Barber found a hazard with his tee shot on the same hole just minutes earlier, giving way to a double-bogey that took him back to 13-under.

Barber recovered with birdies on 14 and 16 to move back to 15-under par – a string of holes that proved to be less fruitful to Webb, who bogeyed 14 and 15 to drop out of the top five at 10-under par.
Both players pared out, leaving Barber with his first Web.com Tour title and Webb with a share of eighth place, and a host of new fans.
The T8 was worth $18,850 to Webb, who also earned a spot in the tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am, slated to kick off in the Upstate of South Carolina in two weeks. He needs to earn $35,198 in order to receive special temporary member status on the Web.com Tour for the remainder of the season.
“Thank you to the eGolf Pro Tour and the Web.com Tour for making this week possible! aWhat an amazing week!” said Webb on his Twitter account late Sunday night.
More than money or potential status, the week in Valdosta proved to Webb that he belongs, and has the game to compete on golf’s biggest stages.
Webb’s potential began to show it’s face in 2013 after mixed results the two years prior. The 26-year-old made 12 of 20 cuts last year, finishing the season with a then-career-best, runner-up finish at the Cabarrus Classic in November – one of four top-10s in 2013.
Other eGolf Tour players to make the cut at Kinderlou Forest include Ryan Armour (T4), Trevor Murphy (T8), Nathan Tyler (T8), Ryan Blaum (T11), Zach Sucher (T11), Jason Allred (T11), Roger Sloan (T14), Derek Fathauer (T14), Mike Miller (T14), Andrew Putnam (T14), Andres Gonzales (T19), Tony Finau (T19), Kyle Reifers (T19), Kent Bulle (T19), Garth Mulroy (T27), Jeff Curl (T27), Hugo Leon (T33), Justin Lower (T33), Andy Pope (T33), Scott Harrington (T39), Matt Davidson (T49), Ryan Spears (T49), Chris Epperson (T49), Matt Hendrix (T49), Casey Wittenberg (56), Chris Baker (T57), Luke List (T57), Aron Price (T57), Mark Anderson (T60) and Jonathan Fricke (74).
