Lemont, IL – The PGA TOUR’s Playoffs for the FedExCup continue today outside of Chicago, IL at Cog Hill Golf Club with the start of the BMW Championship – the third of four tournaments to decide the winner and $10 million dollar champion in the season-long points race. After the conclusion of the Deutsche Bank Championship two weeks ago, eight eGolf Tour players found themselves inside the top 70 and with a spot in this week’s event.
Leading the way at No. 19 on the points list is 2011 PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley, who competed on the eGolf Tour in 2009. After entering the Playoffs inside the top 10, Bradley suffered missed cuts at both The Barclays and the Deutsche Bank Championship to fall down just inside the top 20. The former St. John’s University golfer, who collected his first career win at the HP Byron Nelson Championship earlier this year, is in good position to advance to next week’s TOUR Championship in Atlanta.
Two-time eGolf Tour winner Steve Marino fell from No. 34 to No. 42 on the FedExCup points list with a 71st-place finish at The Barclays, but rebounded in Boston with rounds of 67-72-68-69—276 and a T16 finish to move back up to No. 38 on the list. The week will mark Marino’s fourth career start at the BMW Championship, where he has two career top-25 finishes.
At Nos. 43 and 46 on the points list are 2011 Viking Classic champion Chris Kirk and 2011 Greenbrier Classic champion Scott Stallings and, respectively.
Kirk, whose best eGolf Tour finish was a playoff loss at the 2009 Pine Needles Classic, has had a fantastic rookie season on the PGA TOUR with the Viking Classic win and a T2 finish at the Shell Houston Open. The 2007 Ben Hogan Award winner missed the cut at The Barclays, but rode a second-round 66 to a T31 finish at the Deutsche Bank Championship to fall only two spots from No. 41 to No. 43 on the points list.
Stallings, a member of the eGolf Tour in 2008 and 2009, broke through for his first PGA TOUR win at the second annual Greenbrier Classic in July. Stallings entered The Barclays at No. 31 on the points list, but missed the cut to fall down to No. 38. At the Deutsche Bank Championship, rounds of 72-65-74-71—282 gave the former Tennessee Tech standout a T52 finish and dropped him eight spots down to No. 46.
Four-time eGolf Tour winner Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey comes in at No. 54 on the points list after suffering missed cuts at both The Barclays and the Deutsche Bank Championship. With four top-5 finishes thus far in a breakout sophomore campaign, Gainey will need to re-discover the magic at Cog Hill in order to have a shot of moving up inside the top 30 and advancing to The TOUR Championship.
Blake Adams
Blake Adams (No. 57), Brendon de Jonge (No. 64) and Cameron Tringale (No. 66) round out the eGolf Tour’s representation inside the top 70.
Adams, who was a member of the eGolf Tour in 2008 and 2009 before playing his way onto the Nationwide Tour, won the eGolf Tour’s Columbia Open in the fall of 2008 and has since been a star on the rise. In 2009, Adams opened his eGolf Tour season with a T2 finish at the FairwayStyles.com Open, but soon followed that up with a slew of top finishes on the Nationwide Tour. Three top-3 finishes in his first nine starts on the year vaulted Adams well inside the top 25 on the Nationwide Tour money list, and by season’s end, the former Georgia Southern golfer had played his way onto the PGA TOUR via a third-place finish on the Nationwide Tour money list.
At last week’s Deutsche Bank Championship, Adams posted rounds of 70-67-68-70—275 to notch his fourth top-10 of the 2011 season (T10). All four top-10s came in his last 10 starts on the PGA TOUR, and Adams will likely need to match a season-best T3 finish (Reno-Tahoe Open) this week in order to move on in the Playoffs.
The eight eGolf Tour veterans, and their starting positions for the Playoffs for the FedExCup, are listed below:
