Former eGolf Tour Member Wes Roach Posts Career-Best T2 Finish at Web.com Tour’s Mexico Championship

Leon, Mexico – Former eGolf Tour member Wes Roach of Knoxville, TN – who was the 18-hole leader at the tour’s season-opening Palmetto Hall Championship in February – posted a career-best T2 effort at the Web.com Tour’s Mexico Championship presented by Banamex on Sunday, thanks to rounds of 67-69-71-70—277.
Roach entered the final round at host El Bosque Golf Club at 9-under par, tied for fifth and two shots off the lead. The 24-year-old – in his second year as a full member of the Web.com Tour – made a quick final-round move, posting birdies on four of his first eight holes to vault to 13-under par, briefly tied for the tournament lead.
The final 10 holes, however, would be less kind to Roach, as bogeys on Nos. 9 and 11 dropped him back to 2-under for the day and 11-under overall – where he would eventually finish after pars on his last seven holes gave him a closing 2-under 70. The 11-under 277 tally left Roach two shots shy of winner Michael Putnam, who birdied two of his last three holes for a two-shot victory.
The finish marked Roach’s third top-10 of the year, dating back to fifth-place and T8 finishes at both the Brasil Classic and Stadion Classic at UGA, respectively. For his efforts, Roach collected a check of $52,266, which is more money than he made in all of 2012. He is now No. 15 on the money list with $103,526 in season-long earnings.
The former Duke University star opened his 2013 campaign at the eGolf Tour’s Palmetto Hall Championship, posting a 6-under 66 to grab the day one lead on his way to a T32 finish. In 2011, Roach posted two top-10s on the eGolf Tour, including a career-best T7 finish at the Southern Open.
Web.com Tour rookie Chesson Hadley, who finished second on the eGolf Tour’s 2012 money list, carded rounds of 71-69-70-69—279 en route to his second-straight top-10 finish, a T6 at the Mexico Championship.
Hadley, who won the eGolf Tour’s River Landing Open last July, began the final round in a tie for 10th, and briefly threatened the lead when he played his first eight holes in 3-under par to move to 9-under for the week. From there, the former Georgia Tech “All America” selection rounded out his final 10 holes in even par, settling for a closing 69 on the day.
The finish arrived just one week after the Raleigh, NC resident earned a career-best T3 finish at the BMW Charity Pro-Am, where a final-round 63 – thanks to a tour-record-tying 27 on the opening nine – left him six shots back of winner Mark Anderson.
Hadley spent 2010 through 2012 on the eGolf Tour, collecting over $170,000 in earnings with 11 top-5 finishes, including the aforementioned win at River Landing.
Former eGolf Tour member Andrew Putnam and former eGolf Tour player Jim Renner posted matching T9 finishes at 8-under 280 for the week.
Putnam, the younger brother of the tournament winner, posted rounds of 70-69-72-69—280 for the first top-10 of his Web.com Tour career, in this, his rookie season.
The former Pepperdine standout, who spent 2012 as a member of the eGolf Tour, entered the week on the heels of back-to-back missed cuts, but added his third top-25 of the year with his solid play south of the border. The T9 paired with two prior T15 finishes on the year, notched at both the Colombia Championship and the South Georgia Classic.
Other eGolf Tour players to make the cut in Mexico include Russell Knox (T12), Ben Martin (T15), Corey Nagy (T15), James Nitties (T20), Aron Price (T28), Stephan Jaeger (T28), Nick Rousey (T34), Mark Anderson (T40), Kevin Tway (T48), Michael Sims (T50), Billy Hurley (T54), Fernando Mechereffe (T54) and Scot Harrington (T61). • At the PGA TOUR’s Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, former eGolf Tour member Scott Stallings threatened to capture win No. 3, but a late Sunday double-bogey on the difficult par-4 15th foiled his chances, leaving the former Tennessee Tech golfer in a tie for fourth on the week, three shots behind winner Boo Weekley at 11-under 269 for the tournament. The finish was Stallings’ second top-5 effort of the year, dating back to a matching T4 finish at the Humana Challenge in January. Matching Stallings inside the top five was former eGolf Tour player Matt Every, who played in Sunday’s final pairing, but had to birdie three of his final eight holes to notch a 1-under 69, posting a T4 finish as well at 11-under par. The finish was Every’s best since a T2 at the season-ending Children’s Miracle Network Classic last November – a stretch of 17 TOUR starts. Other eGolf Tour players to make the cut at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, TX include Josh Teater (T7), Martin Flores (T14), Jason Kokrak (T18), Ted Potter (T18), Brendon de Jonge (T22), Daniel Summerhays (T35), Chris Kirk (T35), Michael Thompson (T46), Roberto Castro (T46), Cameron Tringale (T54), Kevin Chappell (T54), Kyle Reifers (T54), Tommy Gainey (T54), Justin Hicks (T62), Luke Guthrie (T65), Morgan Hoffmann (69) and Henrik Norlander (T73).
