Charlotte, NC – In August of 2013, eGolf announced the formation of a season-ending, Million Dollar Championship Series, set to put forth the top players in developmental tour golf to compete for a sum total of $1 million dollars in prize money over a four-tournament series. Today, the company announced the first of the four tournament sites, with River Hills Country Club in Lake Wylie, SC being named as host of the $225,000 River Hills Championship on August 27-30, 2014.

eGolf’s inaugural Million Dollar Championship Series will feature guaranteed purses of $225,000, $225,000, $250,000 and $300,000, with the winner of the fourth and final championship series event receiving a $50,000 first-place prize. The four-event series will feature tournaments on both the east and west coasts, with the $225,000 Island View Casino Championship in Gulfport, MS set for September 9-12, 2014. The final two events will be announced shortly.

The 156-player fields for each Million Dollar Championship Series event will be comprised of the top 60 members from the Charlotte, NC-based eGolf Tour, the top 30 members from eGolf Tour West, and the top 30 members from eGolf Tour Florida.

The remaining spots in each event will be filled by top players from tours around the world, as well as a Monday qualifier, in an effort to create a truly worldwide series.

This will mark the tour's sixth trip to the greater Lake Wylie, SC area for an event at River Hills Country Club, dating back to five prior years of the annual River Hills Classic. Past champions at River Hills include current PGA TOUR members Brice Garnett (2011) and Roberto Castro (2008).

“We have had a wonderful working relationship with the eGolf Tour over the years, and feel as though our course has put out some great champions,” said River Hills director of golf T.J. Bridges. “Our members are thrilled that River Hills was selected to host such a prestigious event, and I’m certain our club and our course will make it a special week for the players.”

River Hills is a 1969 Willard Byrd signature design just minutes south of downtown Charlotte on the banks of Lake Wylie. In the summer of 2012, noted architect Kris Spence redesigned and re-contoured the greens, changing them from bent grass surfaces to Champion Bermuda surfaces during the process. In turn, the greens at River Hills will be some of the year’s best amidst the August heat, which the champion Bermuda thrives off of. Past champions of the River Hills Classic include current PGA TOUR members Roberto Castro (2008) and Brice Garnett (2011).

“We are excited to announce River Hills as host for this groundbreaking event,” said eGolf Tour president David Siegel. “From day one, the club has been fantastic to work with, and has always put forth some of the best conditions we see on our tour each year. We had our eye on a Charlotte-area event for quite some time, and are thrilled that we’re able to fulfill that goal with the River Hills Championship.”

The week at River Hills will kick off with a Pro-Am on Monday, August 25th, with practice rounds taking place on Tuesday, August 26th. Tournament play will begin on Wednesday morning, with the final round and awards ceremony set for Saturday, August 30th.

The River Hills Classic, originally scheduled for August 13-16, will be replaced with an event to be announced in the coming week. The tournament date will remain the same. The event will be the final regular season tournament on the 2014 eGolf Tour schedule, and will be the last week in which members can earn one of the 60 automatic qualifying spots in the Million Dollar Championship Series.
