Salisbury, NC – At 4:04 PM on Wednesday afternoon, the first round of the eGolf Tour’s season-ending Salisbury Classic came to a close with all players in the field finally completing 18 holes after numerous rain delays over two days suspended play. Second-round play began at 3:20 PM, with half the field still on the course when play was called due to darkness at 6:30 PM. The second round will resume at 9:00 AM on Thursday morning, with the final wave of play beginning at 10:20 AM. The tournament has officially been reduced to 36 holes.

The Salisbury Classic is the 17th and final event of the 2011 eGolf Tour season and is being contested this week at the Country Club of Salisbury in Salisbury, NC. The event is the third and final tournament in the eGolf Tour’s “Road to Morocco.” At the conclusion of tomorrow’s final round, the leading member after the three-event points race will earn an exemption into the European Tour’s King Hassan II Trophy, to be contested in Agadir, Morocco in the spring of 2012.

Corey Nagy of Charlotte, NC and Jhared Hack of Sanford, FL are the tournament co-leaders after posting opening rounds of 6-under 65, both of which were completed on Tuesday afternoon.

Corey Nagy

Nagy, a four-time “All America” selection at UNC Charlotte, is in search of his third win in 2011 after capturing the season-opening Swiftwick Shootout at Palmetto Hall in February and the Bolle Classic in June. The Bolle Classic was partially contested at the Country Club of Salisbury.

In his first full season on the eGolf Tour, Nagy has collected four top-10 finishes and nearly $75,000 in single-season earnings. He is currently No. 5 on the eGolf Tour’s 2011 money list.

Hack, a two-time eGolf Tour winner himself, posted Tuesday’s 65 after taking a three-month hiatus from tour play to compete in local events in his native Florida. The 65 was Hack’s lowest round on the eGolf Tour since closing with a 6-under 65 at the 2010 Southern Open to capture his second career tour title.

Matthew Ryan, Jerry Richardson and Brad Hopfinger are tied for third after opening with rounds of 4-under 67, all of which were carded on Tuesday.

Ryan, a native of Santa Clarita, CA, is currently leading the Road to Morocco points race after notching his first career eGolf Tour title at the Bushnell Classic two weeks ago in Gordonsville, VA. Ryan posted a T8 finish at the Cabarrus Classic in September – the first of the three Road to Morocco events – and currently holds a 500-point lead over Ryan Nelson of Houston, TX. Nelson carded a 3-over 74 in the opening round on Wednesday.

Of the players who finished first-round play on Wednesday afternoon, Dan Thompson of Johnstown, PA and Daniel Stanley of Inman, SC carded the low rounds with a 3-under 68 each in wet conditions. Both players were tied for sixth place through 18 holes.

The tournament is open to the public and free of charge.
